Call Me - Single

Anna of the North

1
Before the Record

By the autumn of 2025 Anna Lotterud stood in a familiar place and a new one at the same time. She had spent a decade turning private heartbreak into public pop. The project known as Anna of the North began in 2014 as a transcontinental pairing with producer Brady Daniell-Smith. Since 2018 Lotterud had carried the name forward on her own. Her previous full-length, Crazy Life (released 4 November 2022), had closed one chapter of that work with a measured, bittersweet polish. It left her both more visible and, by her own admission in interviews, more restless.

Inside the Studio

The three songs collected on Call Me - Single emerged from a year of focused singles and a handful of sessions in London. The record label credit reads Play It Again Sam / PIAS and the release date is 24 October 2025. Production across these tracks is split and deliberate. Starsmith (Finlay Dow‑Smith) is credited as producer on "Call Me" and "Give Me Your Love Back". Sebastian Furrer produced "Waiting For Love". That pairing matters. Starsmith brings a practiced pop sheen. Furrer brings a darker, club-rooted texture. Together they give the single a geography inside pop that is both daytime and night.

Track by Track

Call Me

This is the title song and the clearest statement of intent. Composed by Anna Lotterud and Finlay Dow‑Smith (Starsmith) and produced by Starsmith, the track was issued on 24 October 2025 as the headline cut from this three‑song set. The lyric repeats a pleading, simple imperative: "Call me if you want to." The phrase turns small domestic longing into a late‑night imperative. Musically the song lives in a pulsing, 80s‑shaded synth bed and a forward bassline. The production favors transparent layers. Vocals sit close in the mix. The result is a nakedness that pretends to glisten. On paper this is polished electropop. In the ear it is a private light that refuses to go out.

Waiting For Love

Written with Sebastian Furrer and Hilda Stenmalm, and produced by Sebastian Furrer, this cut is the single that reads like an anecdote turned anthem. The lyric centers on a balcony dance that spikes hope and then disappears. That image is specific and cinematic. The production opens that image into space. Furrer’s touch is to let synth pads swell and then recede so the vocal breathes between them. The song was mixed by Lee Smith. It was reported to appear in the Norwegian film Dancing Queen in Hollywood, where several of Lotterud’s songs were placed and where she is said to make a cameo. The song sits in the middle of the three‑song sequence like a slow tilt from urgency toward ruefulness. It keeps the night alive while admitting it will not stay.

Give Me Your Love Back

Credited to Anna Lotterud, Finlay Dow‑Smith, and Corey Sanders, and produced by Starsmith, this short, bright track closes the single. The voice seeks restitution. The chorus repeats the demand with a playful insistence. The production shrinks parentheses around that demand and then opens them again. Ewan Pearson is credited as mix engineer on this cut, which gives the final track a crispness that leans club‑clean without erasing the song’s wounded core. As a sequencing decision the track functions as a small, defiant exhale. It is not reconciliation. It is insistence. That insistence finishes the single with a tension that refuses to be neatly resolved.

Taken together these three songs make a compact arc. "Call Me" opens with a direct appeal. "Waiting For Love" complicates that appeal with memory and missed timing. "Give Me Your Love Back" turns the longing into a demand. The flow is deliberate. The arrangements tighten as you move through the set. The sonic language shifts between Starsmith’s high‑gloss pop and Sebastian Furrer’s mood‑heavy textures, but Anna’s vocal center holds everything together. The single reads as a teaser for a larger record while also functioning as a small, self‑contained narrative about connection that arrives, evaporates, and insists on return.
